A Year ago to the day we received the news that we were all dreading, the world had lost a great leader, father and unifier. Nelson Mandela was a remarkable man – his greatest legacy will be how he emphasised the need for Reconciliation. He lived Reconciliation and he was a great Unifier.
Nelson Mandela led us out of a very dark period of ‘white’ minority rule and racial oppression to Truth, Reconciliation and Forgiveness. His brave and courageous leadership took South Africa from the brink of a bloody revolution to National Unity.
On the 11th February 1990 when he was released from prison he said ‘As I walked out of the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew that if I didn’t leave my bitterness and anger behind, I would still be in a prison. I knew that in order to experience true freedom, I would have to walk the road to Forgiveness’.
I believe that when Nelson Mandela was set free, all 52.98 million South Africans (black and white) were set free.
Nelson Mandela s example will live on and it will continue to Inspire us All to achieve his vision of Freedom, Justice. Human Dignity and Equality for all. Although Nelson Mandela is no longer physically with us his legacy remains to guide us as we continue our journey into the future. Let us make a decision today to forgive those who have hurt or disappointed us in the past. Perhaps we may want to start by forgiving ourselves.
I feel both Blessed and Honoured to have worked alongside such a Great Man.
Thank You for All the Memories Madiba!
